Energy Management Program

Do you have equipment you can turn off or operate with back-up generation for up to nine summer afternoons?

Most companies have some operations which, on a limited basis, could be rescheduled to another day, evening or weekend period. If you can reduce your electric load by turning off designated load or by operating it with your back-up generator during brief summer peak electric periods, Saint Peter Municipal Utilities will pay you up to $20 for each kW reduced over the four-month summer season.

Here's How It Works:

You agree to turn off at least 70 kW of load or operate at least 25 kW of load with your back-up generator:

• for the 6 hours between 12:00pm and 6:00pm

• up to 9 curtailment days per summer season (June 1 to September 30)

• up to a maximum of 3 consecutive days (no weekends or holidays)

In exchange for this potential of 54 hours of curtailment, Saint Peter Municipal Utilities will pay you $5.00 per month for each kW you commit to reduce every month during the four-month control season regardless of whether or not an actual curtailment is called.

You will be given a one hour notice prior to the time the load you designate to reduce should be turned off or operated with your generator. Deductions from the incentive will apply if you are not 100% compliant during the curtailment periods.

Here's An Example:

For turning off the minimum 70 kW, Saint Peter Municipal Utilities will pay you...

70 kW X $5 = $350 (per summer month - June, July, August, September)

$350 X 4 months = $1,400 per year

You will be given a minimum of a one hour notice prior to the time the load you designate to reduce should be turned off or operated with your generator. You can also check our Curtailment Probability page to help you plan ahead during the program months.
